Ubud palace provides a perfect backdrop for the Legong Trance and Paradise Dance performance. Everything from the costumes, the expressions, the dance moves, the script was simply superb. The way the actors emoted through their gestures and eyes was mind boggling stuff. Must watch if you are in vicinity of Ubud.
The show opens with the performance Legong Trance depicting the story that gods gives mercy and blessing for peace and prosperity of humans.
Next up was the ‘Jauk’ which is my favorite performance in which a lovable masked demon thoroughly enjoys himself in a forest and expresses an amazing range of emotions through ad-lib. Simply Brilliant performance.
Lencana Agung performance portrays life in Ubud village through the spirit and vibrant energy described by the symbols. The spirituality, peacefulness and natural beauty allows for envisaging Ubud as a place to wonder and admire for its natural charm.
Kebyar Trompong – An explosion of flash performed on the Trompong requiring high level of technical achievement. The playing of Trompong is embellished lavishly with dance, and the range of expression throughout is exceptional, flashing from strength to refined delicacy, courage to coy flirtation.
The Ballet of Bimaniu – Love story of Bimaniu and Sita Sunari. The Ballet takes its inspiration from the great epic Mahabharata. Bimaniu(Abhimanyu) is the son of the legendary Pandava warrior Arjuna and falls in love with Sita Sunari. The great part about the legend is how Bimaniu proves his royal lineage by the prowess of his dance. Herein lies a lesson for all of us, to resolve conflicts through sharing of art, culture and tradition rather than mindless confrontation.
